Common Networks was founded on the idea that everyone should have a choice for fast, affordable access to broadband internet. Right now, most homes in the U.S. don't. High-speed access unlocks all the superpowers on the internet. When it works, it can be a great leveling force across the world, giving everyone access to educational tools, entertainment, immediate translations, or even medical care that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
Common Networks has developed an innovative new way to deliver ultra high speed internet to suburban neighborhoods using wireless technology. We interconnect homes in a neighborhood, creating a mesh network between homes and our fiber internet sources. A whole community can then have fast and reliable internet service with only a few locations needing fiber access.
As our first Electrical Engineer, you will help lead the development of our next generation hardware. You’ll be responsible for all electrical architecture definition, design, prototyping, and high-volume manufacturing. Our product is fast, reliable, low-cost internet and while the consumer is our customer, the hardware is enterprise-grade.
What you do
You’re comfortable thinking about the big picture and the small details. You enjoy making product feature and architecture decisions as well as routing a high-speed differential pair.
You have strong electrical fundamentals and are able to sketch out a circuit on a napkin, whiteboard, or using a CAD tool.
You are able to design a variety of PCBs and FPCs - from 2-layer origami flexes to 4-layer test boards to 12-layer boards with high-speed digital signals and HDI features.
You work well with small teams of industrial designers, mechanical engineers, embedded software engineers, and product managers. You can manage external consultants when necessary. As we grow, you are interested in mentoring junior electrical engineers.
You research key component choices, engage with vendors, and prototype new circuits whenever possible.
You define electrical validation plans to make sure our products survive in one of the harshest environments in the world - suburban rooftops. You have taken products through FCC and UL compliance testing.
You work with manufacturing teams in Asia to bring high-volume products to market.
Who you are
You’re a self-starter and are capable of being the electrical lead on a product. You don't need to wait for people to tell you what to work on. You strive to make data driven decisions whenever possible; when you don’t have the data you figure out how to get it.
Obsessively organized. Adept at project management. You love thinking about how to improve the process and team to make things work more efficiently and smoothly. You always look for ways to innovate and improve.
A “get-it-done” person. You know that done is better than perfect and are energized by constantly delivering and moving things forward. You roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to make things successful.
Flexible and excited to work in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment.
