Owlet Baby Care is a venture-backed startup based in Lehi, Utah, just outside of Salt Lake City. It was founded in 2013 by a team of passionate parents who launched a groundbreaking product called the Owlet Smart Sock. This market-exclusive innovation tracks the heart and oxygen levels of newborns and notifies parents via smartphone if levels leave preset ranges. We’re searching for a qualified individual who is as passionate as us about the Owlet mission to join our Engineering team as our newest Senior Software Engineer.

Here’s what we’ll find on our newest hire’s resume:

  • A background and skill set that stands out above our other candidates
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years’ experience developing backend applications and web services
  • 3+ years’ experience with Python, SQL, NoSQL, RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Java and NodeJS
  • Demonstrated firm understanding of OOP
  • Experience with debugging and being meticulous about quality
  • Experience working with applications developed by another developer
  • Experience with source control, preferably Git
  • Proven ability to follow Test Driven Development practices
  • Experience with Symfony 2 and Laravel
  • Experience with GCP (especially Dataflow, BigTable and BigQuery), AWS/Azure, and Firebase
  • Experience with data interchange formats (i.e. XML, JSON)
  • Experience with unit test frameworks

Here’s how you’ll help fulfill Owlet’s vision with this role:

  • Participate in the creation of design specifications (with design teams and across business units), development, verification, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and delivery of high quality stable internal processes, services, APIs, and websites
  • Write unit tests, detailed commit messages, and release documentation
  • Take ownership of your development through design prototyping and implementation
  • Focus on the stability and reliability of Owlet’s internal services and APIs
  • Deliver resilient, robust, and durable servicesAPIswebsites
  • Have great debugging skills and investigate hard-to-reproduce crashes
  • Be meticulous, detailed oriented, and dependable
  • Work closely with project managers, VP of Software Engineering, and fellow engineers, following established processes
  • Participate in regular code reviews
