At Symbio Robotics, we are revolutionizing the way humans use industrial robots.

We are building custom software to control robots of all makes and models very quickly and precisely, all with a common platform. At the core of this platform are Python libraries that abstract away the proprietary low-level interfaces that are unique to each robot brand. Our goal is to completely supplant the existing robot programming paradigm and allow our end users to write smart robot programs that quickly close the loop on high rate force and vision feedback.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Writer to work with our product, software, marketing and customer support teams to write and publish technical product information for our customers, partners, suppliers, and technical users.

Success in this role will be demonstrated by creating and publishing documents that can be easily consumed by customers from around the world.

You will:

  • Document Symb.io’s cutting edge artificial intelligence platform Symb.io DCS.
  • Write, edit, revise and publish technical product information such as datasheets, API documentation, design guides, application notes and user manuals.
  • Schedule reviews, recording approval, and maintaining information architecture metadata.
  • Communicate complex information in written form, clearly, concisely and accurately, without relying on buzzwords or jargon.
  • Analyze and interpret data to determine appropriate syntax, presentation style, voice and grammatical usage.

You have:

  • Excellent writing skills combined with a technical background. Degreed engineers with excellent English skills and experience developing and maintaining documentation or product support for embedded software, complex B2B software, industrial automation, and/or manufacturing processes are encouraged to apply.
  • 5+ years' experience as a technical writer, at least some of which will have been for a software product.
  • Experience planning, schedule negotiation, task management, publication, and post-release updates
  • Experience working with the following tools and practices:
    • Content management systems, such as DITA, Doxygen
    • Version control best practices
    • HTML/XML workflows, such as Javadoc
    • Microsoft* Office
    • Adobe* family of products
    • GitHub
    • Confluence
  • Strong preferences for experience in Industrial Automation, Automotive Manufacturing, Robotics, Embedded Systems, Embedded Software, and/or Networking
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience. Preference for a computer science, engineering or other technical degree.

Location: Emeryville, CA

  • This is an onsite role, and we will not consider remote employment.
