What is the role?

The Lead Designer will be a key member of the team responsible for all design activities and decisions, and for making our products usable and intuitive.  They will work closely with our executive, product, and engineering teams to:

  • Understand our users, create user flows and UI wireframes, and design and test user interface mockups and prototypes.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to improve user experience.
  • Lead design sprints and strategic workshops to drive understanding across the team of user needs and to collaboratively develop UX designs for our web product.
  • Develop creative and compelling messaging about Spell that appeals to enterprise customers and to our individuals users.
  • Oversee branding and ensure brand consistency across all external and internal materials.

The deliverables:

  • Within the first month,  the Lead Designer has developed a clear and consistent brand identity and a strategy for incorporating those guidelines across Spell’s products and materials.
  • Within three months, they have led a design meeting and gotten to consensus on incorporating user-centered design principles into the internal web product, including incorporating user feedback and extending the product offering to serve the needs of enterprise customers.
  • The Lead Designer is continuously in conversation with product and engineering to ensure workflows are aligned and the team is clear on the goals and purpose of design decisions.
  • Among the team, the Lead Designer is a trusted resource and is leading our overall strategy of how Spell presents itself to the outside world.

 Our ideal candidate:

  • At least 3-5 years design experience, including experience working with interdisciplinary teams of designers, product managers, and researchers.
  • Is an expert at making complicated technical concepts and workflows intuitive and accessible.  
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree or equivalent experience in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, New Media, Human-Computer Interaction, or another relevant field
  • Experience with prototyping tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, Abstract etc
