VP Field Operations at Common Networks

Common Networks was founded on the idea that everyone should have a choice for fast, affordable access to broadband internet. Right now, most homes in the U.S. don't. In fact 62% of homes live in a monopoly broadband market. High-speed access unlocks all the superpowers on the internet. When it works, it can be a great leveling force across the world, giving everyone access to educational tools, entertainment, immediate translations, or even medical care that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
Common Networks provides suburban neighborhoods with internet using wireless technology. We interconnect homes in a neighborhood, creating a mesh network between homes and our fiber internet sources. A whole community can then have fast and reliable internet service with only a few locations needing fiber access.
 
Role
As the VP of Field Operations you will lead all central programs, policies, and processes that make Common Networks’ operations, installation and field teams a well-oiled machine. You own, develop, maintain, and constantly improve our operations from implementing the right metrics to predicting demand, to measuring installer efficiency, to managing our safety protocols. You work with our local general managers to improve operations across all our markets leading to higher growth and improved customer experience. You build a process and team that sets Common Networks up to scale from 1,000 to 100,000 customers.
 
What you do
You develop and maintain all KPIs for the operations team from installation time to failure rates to costs. You set the team goals to improve growth and overall efficiency. You own all inputs to forecasting and ensuring smooth operations of ongoing market “supply” (e.g. installer training, hiring, fiber capacity planning). You ensure that current status and potential bottlenecks are communicated and identified to ensure smooth local operations. You act as a central point of contact for our general managers scaling their operations to build and execute repeatable process for onboarding and training technicians. You work closely with our product team to identify broken processes that need their attention and advocate for changes to our internal tools. Manage the team that builds and maintain key process and tools for the operations team to run our day to day field operations: scheduling, inventory, ticketing, dispatching.

Must Haves
BA/BS 10-15 years of work experience with at least 6 years of manufacturing, operations or logistics experience, ideally in a technology company Experience with physical infrastructure / operations, maintenance, employee safety and security
Experience managing a team, ideally with a mix of exempt and non-exempt roles
Excited to work in a startup environment on a team of less than 100 people to start
